Home for girls “Santa Teresa de Jesús” Ocampo 437-Te 03471-423222 This place are 45 years giving education, health, human training, social habits and a decent house. LALCEC (Argentinian Association in the Fight against Cancer) Sarmiento 148-Te 03471-423175 It acts in the oncologic prevention; gives attention to needy people with medicines, diagnostic studies, and phsicologic treatments. It takes people to the places to have medical controls and gives them economic support. Ladies of Charity Lavalle 1260 –Te 03471-424124 An institution with 115 years of existence in the city, it has been developing a hard work in favour of the neediest people of the society, especially the elderly and children. The City - Characteristics Province: Santa Fe State: Iriondo Total area: 51.874,91ha. Urban area: 18km2. Population: 30.000 inhabitants. Height over the sea level: 82, 92 mts. Ground: Black grassland formed by a plain with undulating fields of North-South slopes. Climate: pampean mild, with average temperatures that varies between the 5ºC and the 28ºC. Winds: Regular winds that go through the Northeast, warm and humid, especially in summer, and the characterisitic ones of our province like the Pampero, the North and the Sudestada. Average of rains: Atlantic, with rains between the 800 and the 1000 millimetres per year, being plenty of in the summer. Economy: Cañada de Gómez is known as “The Capital of Furniture”, because it has countless factories in this sector. It is a region where the agriculture is predominant because of the characteristics of ground and climate; as well as the livestock with its livestock breeding. Education In the city it is the Head Office of the Management Region V of the Department of Education and Culture of the province of Santa Fe. Places to visit The Public Historic Museum - An interesting reservation of the past of the city of Cañada de Gómez, this museum shows its collection in four rooms, which has important evidences of the historic past of the region, elements of the agricultural colonization, fragments relating to the arrival of the first inmigrants, and also of the development of the journalistic activity. It is worth to know that there is a spear and a weapon used in the Battle of Pavón, two handkerchieves belong to Carlos Gardel; medals and other objects of the Catholic worship; a sewing case from the ends of the XIX Century; and an old map of the city. Cañadense Museum of Art (MAC) - The Cañadenses artists have their own space to show what they do, and the citizens a place to apreciate the cultural expresion. This museum is situated in a property of the railway that was especially redesigned. “The idea was to give a space to the art where painters, sculptors and other expressions can show, organize meetings and give talks. With this gallery, spaces have been retrieved from the local history connected to the railway”, it was said in the inauguration ceremony. From the `90s decade the local governments are doing (with more or less emphasis) a contribution to the redesign of the railway area, which was abandoned for years. The museum has sections dedicated to paintings and sculptures shows, besides a video room. The architects and builders respected the english line that belongs to the railway building. Colonia Medici - It is a small village situated at 20kms from the city. A founder descendant family, from Swiss origin, created “La Juanchesca”, an ambitious project of rural tourism that was officially inaugurated on December 2004. In this project some houses were repaired. It offers some services such as a practical course of Cheesemaker, a rural library where you can learn the history of the region, rich in legends and mistery. In this rural tourism you can visit a Dairy with more than a hundred cows in activity, a small bar in disuse, a line of goods store, a chapel, besides you can enjoy the horses and the traditions. This offer of rural tourism considers an interactive museum, a rural library and the creation of a cultural road in which you can go over different places like The Larguìa station, the house where Alfonsina Storni lived in Bustinza and companies of the region. Squares and rides - Cañada de Gómez has the San Martín Square, in front of the San Pedro Church, and several squares, small squares and rides situated in different sites of the city. Among them, there is a especial green space called “Municipal Park”. It is an area of 16 hectares situated in the border of the National Road Nº 9. The 30 % of its surface is dedicated to sport activities and the 70% is dedicated to recreation. It has more than 100 species of trees and 2000 specimens; that`s why it is an area of fresh shadow where you can be directly in contact with nature. It has grills and small huts, lighting, swimming pool, cycle track, athletics track and football field. Cafés, Pubs and restaurants - In spite of being a city with 40.000 inhabitants, it has an important night life. With more than ten restaurants where you can enjoy the tradicional barbecue, the options to go out to dinner are quite wide. If you want to have a drink or dance there are several discos and pubs that attract the young people of the city and the neighbour ones. History In the middle of XIX Century with the settling of the first post of way, that joined Rosario and Córdoba, the first colonists started to settle. On November 22nd 1861, a historic fact is produced: The Slaughter of Cañada de Gómez. The unitary troops of the Gral.Venancio Flores assaulted at night the army of the Confederation that were camping the city nearby. In 1886 the first stretch of the railway is inaugurated (Rosario-Tortugas) and for the first time a passenger train stops in our city. The date of the colonization starting in our city can be established in the year 1872, when 67 European families dedicated to the agriculture settled here. In 1883 the Iriondo state is created with this city as the most important, that it was recognized as town in 1884 and a year later the first Encouragement Commission is established. From this time on, Cañada de Gómez started to grow becoming an important industrial centre, with the establishment of the first industries of comsumer goods made of raw materials from the region. As a consequence of this important development, on October 7th 1922, the provincial government declares Cañada de Gómez a city, being its first municipal manager Dr. Ricardo Andino.
